Credit repair to bad credit doesn’t happen overnight. There are lots of options out there that can help fix credit. But what about your existing accounts, do they still score credit on your credit report? Run a credit check to see your credit report, this will also give you a list of open credit accounts that are impacting your credit, for example: a loan, credit card, line of credit, etc… Then keep the following in mind for your future credit rating:
- Try not to open new accounts, but continue to use existing credit.
- Keep old accounts active and avoid moving your debt around.
- Start using older accounts that you have a long history with, but be sure to pay off the balances each month.
- If you have a good payment history with a lender with one late payment on your credit report, request a goodwill adjustment to remove the late payment, but be sure to get it in writing.
- Dispute older collection amounts that were unpaid as collection agencies may not bother with the verification and credit report companies will be obligated to remove it.
