What a way to spend your Wise Spend Wednesday than by researching fee-free bank accounts! If you are looking to save money, make sure your bank isn't dipping into your own account.
Unfortunately, according to an article from bankrate.com, banks often charge monthly fees just to maintain your checking account. Some charge penalties if your account dips below the required minimum balance, or they may charge fees for using competing bank's ATMs. But that doesn't mean it's impossible to sign up for a free checking account that can save you a few bucks.
Here are 6 banks that offer free checking:
1. Ally
No sneaky fees or minimums for account opening. When you bank with Ally, don’t expect any monthly maintenance fees or minimum balance requirements for account opening.
2. CapitalOne
No fees to open, keep & use so your money stays where it belongs—with you. 360 Checking is a checking account that comes with everything you need and without everything you don’t. Pay your bills, get cash, make deposits, and transfer money—all without monthly fees and extra trips to the bank.
3. Discover Bank
